What happens if a cell does not divide? What is the purpose of cell divison in mitosis?

Why is it important that cells divide? I am talking about mitosis? The cell becomes overcrowded? What happens if a cell does not divide? What is the purpose of cell divison in mitosis?
Some cells divide when they get too large. It has to do with the ratio of the cytoplasmic volume:cell membrane and also the cytoplasmic volume:nucleus . Mitosis without cytokinesis results in polyploidy. Also note that some mature cells don't divide. What happens if a cell does not divide? What is the purpose of cell divison in mitosis?
Cells divide to increase their number. Cell division in eukaryotes is called mitosis. The cells increase their numbers generally to replace other cells or create tissues such as when an infant is in the womb or when a child is growing.
