What would the cell do without the Mitochondria?

What would the cell do without the Mitochondria? I know that the mitochondria is like the power house of a eukaryotic cell because it generates ATP (energy) for the cell to use.

I'm doing a project on the Mitochondria and I need a good attention garbber? How does the mitochondria work on a regular daily basis? What would the cell do without the Mitochondria?
Mitochondria use glucose and turn it in to ATP for the cell. Also the Mitochondria generate heat for the cell so the cell stays alive. Without the Mitochondrin(plural form of Mitochondria) the cell would die.
Tip the person under me is not talking about mitochondria lysomes break down the food and dead cells.
I did a project on and animal cell an plant cell and got a hundred on both of them. What would the cell do without the Mitochondria?
They are organelles that act like a digestive system that takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy for the cell. The process of creating cell energy is known as cellular respiration. Their matrix is filled with water (H2O) and proteins (enzymes). Those proteins take food molecules and combine them with oxygen (O2). The mitochondria are the only place in the cell where oxygen can be combined with the food molecules. After the oxygen is added, the material can be digested. They are working organelles that keep the cell full of energy.

Blah blah etc...What would the cell do without the Mitochondria?
mitochondria is the site of aerobic respiration, most of the reactions of the aerobic pathway occur in the mitochondria. So basically, if there is no mitochondria , the aerobic respiratory pathway would be altered. It produces ATP continuously as our bodies require that energy to do simple work in our daily lives.
im not quite sure wht wud happen to a cell widout mitochondria. but some people with mitochondrial disease can suffer extremely mild symptoms or very severe and it can be at any age , and it can effect more than one organ in the body. And most of them have a high level of lactic acid (which is toxin) in the blood . you could relate these to the importance of mitochondria
Well our cells can also make ATP using fermentation. This produces far less ATP and uses up glucose making it into lactic acid, CO2 and water i think. that what happens when your muscles work anaerobically during intense exercise.

We would definitely die quite quickly though if we didn't have wou mitochondria. Acctually the poison cyanide works by inhibiting aerobic respiration in the mitochondria. In particular it inhibits the cytochrom C oxidase.

There is a great book on mitochondria, its called "Power, Sex, Suicide - Mitochondria and the meaning of life" by Nick Lane (don't worry, it not a dirty book). It is really great but I don't know how much time you have.

He acctually says that if it was not for mitochondria multicellular life could not have developed and bacteria would still be all there is...

Hope this gives you some ideas where to get started on your project :) good luck
